Copycat Wingstop Fries

If you love the seasoned fries from Wingstop, this air fryer copycat version brings that same sweet-and-spicy flavor to your kitchen. The fries are cut from russet potatoes, air fried until crisp, then tossed in the signature seasoning blend. It is a quick side dish that fits right into a weeknight meal.

This recipe is inspired by the healthier Copycat Wingstop Fries from MasonFit. The method is simple: air fry the potatoes, then toss them with a mixture of sugar substitutes, black pepper, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, and salt. That seasoning for Wingstop fries is what makes these taste like the real thing.

Why You Will Love These Copycat Wingstop Fries

They come together in about 30 minutes with just a few pantry spices. No deep fryer needed, and the seasoning goes on after cooking. Plus, cutting the potatoes into more pieces makes thinner fries.

Ingredients

  • 2 Russet Potatoes (about 400g total)
  • 1/2 Tbsp (8g) Olive Oil, or your choice of oil
  • 1/8 tsp Salt
  • 1 Tbsp (12g) Swerve Granular (or a granulated sugar substitute)
  • 1/2 Tbsp (6g) Swerve Brown (or a granulated sugar substitute)
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 1/4 tsp Chili Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Salt

How to Cut the Potatoes

Wash and dry 2 to 3 potatoes, aiming for about 400g total. Cut the end off each potato to create a flat surface. Place the cut side down and cut the potato vertically into 4 to 5 pieces. The more pieces you cut, the thinner your fries will be.

Divide the potato in half, keeping the sliced pieces stacked. Place the middle of the potato face down. Finally, slice lengthwise. Your fries are ready to cook.

How to Air Fry the Fries

Add the cut potatoes to a large bowl. Drizzle with the olive oil and sprinkle with 1/8 tsp salt. Toss to fully coat all the potatoes.

Place the fries in an air fryer and cook at 400°F for 20 to 25 minutes, shaking halfway through. Different air fryers may have different cook times, so keep an eye on the fries to avoid burning.

How to Make the Seasoning for Wingstop Fries

While the fries cook, mix the seasoning ingredients in a small bowl. Combine the Swerve Granular, Swerve Brown, black pepper, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp salt. This blend gives the fries their signature sweet and spicy coating.

How to Toss the Fries with Seasoning

When the fries are cooked, place them back in the large bowl. Sprinkle with the seasoning blend and toss until evenly coated. Some of the spices may not fully stick, and that is fine.

Notes on Air Fryer Times

Air fryer models vary, so start checking the fries around 20 minutes. Shake the basket halfway through for even cooking. If your fries are cut thinner, they may cook faster; thicker fries may need the full 25 minutes.
